Ferdinand D. “Sam” Samonte

Ferdinand Dayao Samonte was born in the Republic of the Philippines and raised in the United States. Before attending Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, he attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Information Systems and Distinguished Military Graduate of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program in 1983. From 1990 to 2004, he also attended Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where he received a Master’s in Business Administration, and the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, where he received a Master’s in Strategic Studies. Colonel Samonte served 26 years in the U.S. Army with multiple combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, earning the Bronze Star Medal twice. Notable duty assignments include Aide-de-Camp to GEN (Ret) Colin Powell and Inaugural Aide to President Clinton. Ferdinand is Ranger qualified, and Master Parachutist with over 100 parachutist jumps. Currently, Ferdinand is a Department of the Army Civilian, with over 40 years of combined Federal Service. He lives in Newport, North Carolina.
