Introduction

In Physical Education, Motor Games are a pivotal pedagogical tool, fostering holistic development and nurturing essential student skills. By integrating motor games into educational practices, educators can effectively promote affectivity, enhance motor skills, and cultivate a positive attitude towards exercise]. Recognizing the significance of motor games, the book explores their role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the educational landscape.

Empowering Learning through Motor Games. Motor games offer dynamic and engaging learning experiences, enabling students to develop fundamental motor skills while experiencing positive emotions, gender equality, social inclusion, cultural diversity (ethnomotricity), positive relationships, sustainability learning (self-made materials) and problem-solving competencies.

Integral Development and SDGs. Motor games are integral to students' holistic development, aligning with the principles of SDGs. These games not only enhance physical fitness but also promote social inclusion, environmental awareness, and health and well-being, resonating with several SDGs, such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

Effective Pedagogy for Sustainable Development: By leveraging motor games as a pedagogical strategy, educators can instil values of sustainability and resilience from an early age. By integrating SDGs into motor games, students acquire powerful skills and develop a deeper understanding of global challenges and their role in creating a sustainable future.

This ‘call for chapters’ should reserve a privileged place for the use of motor game. Because play and motor games are a transformative cultural vehicle of the intended society.

Although this ‘call for chapters’ is open, it is organized around 4 types of contributions: i) Empirical studies, ii) Systematic reviews and meta-analyses, iii) Innovative methodological proposals, iv) Practical experiences with motor games. Contributions can be based on quantitative, qualitative and mixed methodologies.

Objective

This book explores the intersection between Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Physical Education, using motor games and proposing practical models for implementation. The primary objectives are as follows:

  • Comprehensive Understanding: This book provides readers with a thorough understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and their relevance to Physical Education. By elucidating the connection between SDGs and Physical Education, it aims to enhance educators' awareness of the role motor games can play in advancing global sustainability efforts.
  • Practical Models: This book offers practical and actionable models for integrating SDGs into Physical Education curricula. Through case studies, examples, and best practices, it seeks to equip educators with the necessary tools and strategies to incorporate sustainability principles effectively into their teaching methodologies.
  • Advancing Research: This book furthers current research in the field by presenting innovative approaches and methodologies for integrating sustainability principles into Physical Education practices. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the book seeks to inspire future research endeavours to explore the effectiveness and impact of SDG integration in educational settings.

In summary, this book endeavours to serve as a comprehensive guide for educators, policymakers, and researchers interested in promoting sustainable development through Physical Education by using motor games. By offering practical insights, theoretical frameworks, and empirical evidence, it strives to catalyze positive change in educational practices and contribute to the global agenda for sustainable development.

Target Audience

This book primarily aims at researchers who have conducted applied research and pedagogical experiences grounded in scientific inquiry. The target audience includes:

  • Researchers: Individuals actively engaged in research on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Physical Education. This book provides a platform for researchers to contribute their findings and share insights from their practical experiences.
  • Educators and coaches: Teachers and coaches specializing in physical education are interested in explaining their experiences, founded in scientific evidence, and integrating sustainability principles into their teaching practices. The research offers valuable guidance and evidence-based strategies for incorporating SDGs into educational frameworks. Professionals working in the field of Physical Education are invited to explain practical models and case studies directly applied in educational settings.
  • Policy Makers are individuals involved in educational policy and curriculum development who contribute to aligning educational practices with global sustainability initiatives. The insights provided in this book can inform policy decisions and contribute to developing frameworks that prioritize sustainable development goals.
  • Networks around traditional games and sports: The continental and international associations at the European (AEJeST), African (AAJST), Asian (ATSGA), American (APJDAT), and international levels (ITSGA, WEC, Traditional Sports, worldwide network of teachers and researchers in traditional games) are invited to provide contributions.
.

Overall, the book is designed to benefit individuals interested in advancing research, policy, and practice at the intersection of Sustainable Development Goals and Physical Education, particularly those with a background in applied research and pedagogical experiences grounded in scientific inquiry.

Recommended Topics

Contributions should aim to demonstrate the role of motor games in the education of Sustainable Development Goals, with particular emphasis on Quality Education (SDG 4), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11). Contributions can be made from various perspectives.

  • Sociocultural Vision: Cultural diversity; Ethnomotricity; Peace education; Conflict transformation; Gender equality; Intergenerational dialogue; Social Inclusion (vulnerable people: people with disabilities, refugees …).
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities: Physical sustainability; Respectful relationship with the natural environment; Use of self-built objects and recycled materials; Sustainable events; Green experiences.
  • Good Health and Well-being: Emotional well-being; Relational well-being; Group climate; physiological health (sedentary lifestyle, overweight, obesity…).
  • Quality Education: Integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Physical Education Curriculum through Motor Games: Effectiveness of Motor Games in Teaching Fundamental Motor Skills; Case Studies on Integrating Motor Games into Physical Education; Assessment Methods for Motor Game Learning Outcomes.
