Introduction

The ultimate goal of all international psychoeducation and support programs for individuals with disabilities is to enhance self-determination skills, aiming at a good level of independence in everyday life and a smooth transition from adolescence to adulthood. Independent living and self-determination are two interrelated dimensions for individuals with disabilities. For individuals to develop living skills, they must have a good level of self-determination, but at the same time, self-determination is promoted in the context of independent living. Pedagogical and social sciences, in recent years, have focused on the studies on independent living for individuals with disabilities.

Objective

This book aims to inspire and motivate professionals to contribute to the international understanding of independent living for individuals with disabilities. This guide will specifically target educators , including special education teachers, as well as those in typical education settings and specialists, such as occupational therapists and speech therapists, who are involved in teaching independent living skills to individuals with disabilities and school psychologists.
