IGI Global Author/Editor Viktor Wang Honored by AAACE for Exceptional Leadership
In every field there are those who surpass their peers both in terms of their vision of the future and their ability to mobilize others in shaping that future. These individuals are leaders who demonstrate a clear vision of what should be accompanied with a well-thought out strategy to achieve that vision. These leaders demonstrate their effectiveness by the results they achieve and by influencing outcomes by gaining the willing cooperation of colleagues/contemporaries in pursuing commonly held goals and objectives. The Presidential Award for Exceptional and Innovative Leadership in Adult and Continuing Education is presented to persons from education, government, industry or other sectors who demonstrate exceptional and innovative leadership to or in support of adult and continuing education.

Dr. Viktor Wang, distinguished professor and one of IGI Global’s most acclaimed authors/editors, is to be honored with the 2016 President’s Award for Exceptional and Innovative Leadership in Adult and Continuing Education for his contributions to lifelong learning. The award will be presented by the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) at its annual conference in November in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“I am humbled to receive this recognition,” Wang said. “AAACE is known as one of the most prestigious associations in the field, both nationally and internationally, and I am deeply honored by this award from my esteemed colleagues. I am especially grateful to Drs. Patricia Cranton, John Henschke, Kymn Rutigliano and Stephen Brookfield, who wrote the strongest letters of recommendation. This award recognizes, too, the great work in which Florida Atlantic University and California State University, Long Beach, are engaged and it is another opportunity to showcase these universities and IGI Global as a publisher of academic research on the world stage. For all of this I am very honored.”

The President’s Award is given to individuals in the field who “demonstrate exceptional and innovative leadership to or in support of adult and continuing education,” according to the AAACE website. The AAACE, founded in 1982, is a leading resource for the field of adult and continuing education. Past recipients of this award include Jack Mezirow, former Department Chair at Columbia University, Jim Pappas, Vice President of University of Oklahoma, Alan Knox, distinguished professor at University of Wisconsin, Mary Alfred, Associate Dean at Texas A & M University.

For nine years, Wang directed the largest teacher education program at California State University, the largest and most successful continuing education operation in the U.S. under his former Chair, Dr. Paul A. Bott. At any given semester, over 2,000 adult learners sought various degrees and teaching credentials. These adult learners were public/private school teachers, principals, superintendents, police officers, fire fighters and military personnel.

Wang maintained national accreditation for his former department and received the highest honor, the Distinguished Faculty & Scholarly Achievement Award as the youngest faculty member. He joined Florida Atlantic University in 2011 as a tenured associate professor and received early promotion in 2014. During these five years, Wang received numerous awards and accolades and published over 100 refereed publications (journal articles/books and book chapters) with both FAU colleagues and Ph.D. candidates from across four colleges. Including Wang’s own 230+ refereed publications, the total number of refereed publications by Wang and his colleagues is around 1,000, many of which have been cataloged by universities including Ivy League Schools and national libraries from around the globe. He is very grateful that inductees of the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame contribute to his refereed publications on a regular basis. Throughout his career, Wang has received excellent/exceptional teaching evaluations from undergraduate and graduate students from China, Kansas, Arkansas, California, Florida and some other states.

Prior to coming to the United States in 1997, Wang taught for Chinese universities for eight years. His teaching appeared on CCTV and Liaoning Radio and some of his students came from China’s Ivy League schools including Beijing University and Qinghua University. In addition, Wang narrated a series of videos for national and international leaders between 1993 and 1997. Wang set up sister school relationships between universities in China and universities in the United States in 2000 and brought the first group of middle schoolers to the United States who are now attending Ivy League Schools including Stanford University.
