Cyber Attacks Just Keep Coming!

By IGI Global on Feb 8, 2023
Cybercriminal As the world builds an increased reliance on technology for virtually all aspects of everyday life, cybercriminals are working behind the scenes to exploit this dependence. The United Kingdom recently fell victim to Cold River, a hacking group based in Russia. The cybercriminals are behind an ongoing attack to gather information through various targets in government, academia, defense, and other sectors of the United Kingdom. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) reports that Cold River impersonates individuals affiliated with their targets by using fake email addresses and social media accounts.
The established three-volume Encyclopedia of Criminal Activities and the Deep Web (9781522597155), published by IGI Global with perspectives from 30 countries, provides cutting-edge research on new methodologies for monitoring and regulating the use of online tools as well as hidden areas of the internet, including the deep and dark web, and examines how alternative strategies can be implemented for prevention.
"Cybersecurity is even more of a critical issue in the current environment, as ever before. Behavioural aspects relating to cybersecurity risks including vulnerability and lack of knowledge/understanding of cybersecurity risks are examples of human and social factors which need to be addressed, in addition to technological considerations. This volume provides a multiple array of approaches to Cybersecurity and thus serves as a valuable source of reference" – Prof. Tehmina Khan, RMIT University, Australia

Article 9 of the Encyclopedia of Criminal Activities and the Deep Web, “Privacy, Ethics, and the Dark Web,” examines the impact that dark web activities are having on society.
“Primarily off the mainstream radar until recently, the Dark Web is viewed by many as a haven for those who engage in unscrupulous behavior. Yet, at the same time it can also provide an important safe harbor for those engaging in whistleblowing activity. This paper examines the challenges that the Dark Web presents for society, its impact on privacy rights, and the ethical challenges that require organizations to be vigilant in order to minimize threats to both their clientele and to their operations. The paper also examines the important role that ethical theories play in shaping our views about Dark Web activities.”
