The Impacts of ICE Immigration Raids on the Labor Market

How Chicken Farms are Leading the Debate on Immigration and ICE Raids

By Brittany Haynes on Aug 20, 2019
According to a recent Associated Press article, job seekers are now flocking to Mississippi as seven poultry plants have been raided by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). With over 680 workers arrested, this is the latest event in the ongoing discussion on immigration policy and border control. Although these raids have been ongoing throughout multiple presidents’ terms, many are questioning how it will have long-term effects on the labor pool, especially as many of these now vacant positions have a high turnover rate, due to the difficult nature of the job and low wages.

As ICE raids, immigration policy and reform, and labor laws continue to be a trending topic of debate and research, IGI Global continues to publish the latest information on immigration policy to keep abreast of the continuous influx of reports on incidents in the U.S. and beyond.
