Education is the first stage in developing a viable, dynamic, and long-lived global economy. Unfortunately, in times of economic hardship, educational programs, teacher salaries, and extracurricular opportunities are often the first to be cut.

International Education and the Next-Generation Workforce: Competition in the Global Economy presents a detailed discussion of present educational principles and policies, and their impact on the effectiveness of education in a multi-national context. The chapters in this pivotal reference contribute to the body of literature bridging the gap between the fields of business and education, providing educators and business professionals at all levels with an instruction manual for the next generation of employment-focused teaching and learning.

Reviews & Statements

Offering an international coverage, including China, the Russian Federation, the European Union, Egypt, and Hong Kong, this volume is part of the Advances in Higher Education and Professional Development book series. The chapters cover a range of topics, including collaboration, international education, the influence of andragogy, recruiting international students to a university in the United States, technology use, the role of professional organizations, open education, and more. Some of the chapters are case studies, offering insights on what has been done and how to improve or change what is currently occurring in one’s own institution in any type of environment, while others offer a historical overview or an examination of the literature on a topic.

– Sara Marcus, American Reference Books Annual

This book delves into many of the issues that are needed to understand the global aspects of international education for our next generation. The legal, historical, cultural, economic, national, regional and international perspectives are refreshing and help all of us who work with international programs better understand how to be more effective in this kaleidoscopically globalizing world.
