Editor/Author Biographies
Francesco Aletta got his MArch and PhD at the Second University of Naples. He has been Research Associate at the Acoustics Group, School of Architecture of the University of Sheffield (UK), since 2013, working on soundscape descriptors and indicators. Since 2016 he is working at Ghent University, Department of Information Technology within the WAVES research group. Since 2016 he has been appointed as Editorial Board member of the Frontiers in Psychology journal (Environmental Psychology section).
Jieling Xiao is an architect, urban designer and lecturer in Environmental Design at School of Architecture and Design, Birmingham City University. She got her MArch in Urban Design from the Bartlett School, University College London. She completed her PhD at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, University of Sheffield, exploring smellscapes in intermodal transit spaces in the UK and China. Her doctoral study generated a framework of interpreting, evaluating and designing smellscapes in intermodal transit spaces. Jieling’s research focuses on theories and practices of place-making and environmental design through people’s sensory experiences, particularly sounds and smells. She is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Contemporary Urban Affairs.
