Abstract

Emotional intelligence is assuming plenteous position in the social and association life. The individuals who are profoundly equipped with emotional intelligence (EI) can perform better at the workplace. There are some environmental factors that affect EI at the workplace in public and private organizations. The paper presents a conceptual model that explains the environmental factors that influence EI directly or indirectly. EI mainly depends on personal emotions, so this study considers the individual context. Primary data from 250 personals having authoritative jobs is collected through properly designed questionnaire by using random sampling technique. The analyzed factors were job autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive role, purpose in life, and organizational commitment. The results show that factors like job autonomy and organizational commitment have significant and positive impact on emotional intelligence, and employees can enhance the level of performance.

Introduction

Emotional Intelligence is assuming plenteous position in the social and association life. Various issues radiating from foundations can be tended to with the assistance of enthusiastic knowledge. Passionate Intelligence will guarantee self-rule over one's duties to have dominance over authoritative environment.

It has been seen that ecological authority will guarantee authoritative issues with progressive mode. It will likewise spurs the person to appreciate the working environment as a social setup. At first individual get introduction about authoritative work environment, yet by the progression of time, get associated because of passionate knowledge use and different variables by all appearances required for hierarchical and self-awareness.

In the Emotional Intelligence there is a direct relationship between performance of tasks and emotional intelligence at workstation. In the contemporary studies, it is been expected that there is correlation and a criteria has been devised to measure the ability of individuals. The “Multi Factor Emotional Intelligence Scale” (M.E.I.S) was initially adopted by Mayer, Salovey and Caruso with the recommendation that it is the ability of individual to manage tasks with multi-dimensional emotions.

Contemporary studies suggest that the companies are seriously focusing over the management of emotional intelligence science and it is becoming important component of organization in training and development. A number of studies with quality concern have been identified that enforce organizations to focus more toward integration of emotional intelligence with organizations vision for well-being and betterment of individuals and organization in general. Organizations are trying to promote EI philosophy at vertical and horizontal level in the organization. A good outcome of EI will also ensure possible enhancement of Intellectual Quotient of individuals with proper cognitive reasoning. This will help organizations to mitigate stressful environment and will pave the ways for determining organizational prosperity.

Research explores that individual having highest degree of EI will expect greater degree of success in life with efficient and effective career path. This will also pave the ways for the development of other colleagues by ensuring stronger relationship and networking at workstation. The individual will also possess a good health position that will save him from mental or financial constraints (Dulewicz, Higgs et al. 2003). Whereas, the individual having least mastery over EI will face a number of setbacks that will be a recycling process in the organization.

Organizational commitment has remained important topic for researchers. OC has been area for researchers to come up with positive findings from employee or individual point of view as well. It is believed that organizational commitment will be healthy to create responsible workforce for accomplishment of tasks. Research reveals that there is greater nexus with emotional intelligence and organizational commitment. If employee is committed with job than s/he will perform much better as compared to other employees at workstation (Dhar 2015). This will save the maximum amount of energy, human resource, capital for accomplishing huge tasks and responsibilities. OC will ensure minimum input with maximum output. According to (Allen and Meyer 1996), there is psychological affiliation between the workers and work. Employee with higher level of organizational commitment will believe in retention and in case of no retention, the individual will quit organization wholeheartedly.
