Gustavo Camps-Valls

Gustavo Camps-Valls was born in València, Spain, in 1972. He received the B.Sc. degree in physics, the B.Sc. degree in electronics engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Universitat de València, Spain, in 1996, 1998, and 2002, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering, Universitat de València, where he teaches electronics, advanced time-series processing, and digital signal processing. His research interests are neural networks and kernel methods for hyperspectral data analysis, health sciences, and safety-related areas. He has contributed to 30 journal papers, several book chapters, and more than 75 international conference papers. Camps Valls referees several international journals and has served on the Scientific Committees of several national and international conferences. He is a member of the European Network on Intelligent Technologies for Smart Adaptive Systems and is actively involved in the Spanish Thematic Network for Pattern Recognition.

Applications of Kernel Methods
Gustavo Camps-Valls, Manel Martínez-Ramón, José Luis Rojo-Álvarez. © 2009. 7 pages.
In this chapter, we give a survey of applications of the kernel methods introduced in the previous chapter. We focus on different application domains that are particularly active...
Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
Gustavo Camps-Valls, Alistair Morgan Chalk. © 2009. 6 pages.
Bioinformatics is a new, rapidly expanding field that uses computational approaches to answer biological questions (Baxevanis, 2005). These questions are answered by means of...

Genetic algorithms (GAs) are a class of problem solving techniques which have been successfully applied to a wide variety of hard problems (Goldberg, 1989). In spite of...
An Introduction to Kernel Methods
Gustavo Camps-Valls, Manel Martínez-Ramón, José Luis Rojo-Álvarez. © 2009. 5 pages.
Machine learning has experienced a great advance in the eighties and nineties due to the active research in artificial neural networks and adaptive systems. These tools have...
Kernel Methods in Bioengineering, Signal and Image Processing
Gustavo Camps-Valls, Jose Luis Rojo-Alvarez, Manel Martinez-Ramon. © 2007. 430 pages.
In the last decade, a number of powerful kernel-based learning methods have been proposed in the machine learning community: support vector machines (SVMs), kernel fisher...
Discrete Time Signal Processing Framework with Support Vector Machines
José Luis Rojo-Álvarez, Manel Martínez-Ramón, Gustavo Camps-Valls, Carlos E. Martínez-Cruz, Carlos Figuera. © 2007. 29 pages.
Digital signal processing (DSP) of time series using SVM has been addressed in the literature with a straightforward application of the SVM kernel regression, but the assumption...
Perceptual Image Representations for Support Vector Machine Image Coding
Juan Gutiérrez, Gabriel Gómez-Perez, Jesús Malo, Gustavo Camps-Valls. © 2007. 22 pages.
Support vector machine (SVM) image coding relies on the ability of SVMs for function approximation. The size and the profile of the e-insensitivity zone of the support vector...
Hyperspectral Image Classification with Kernels
Lorenzo Bruzzone, Luis Gomez-Chova, Mattia Marconcini, Gustavo Camps-Valls. © 2007. 25 pages.
The information contained in hyperspectral images allows the characterization, identification, and classification of land covers with improved accuracy and robustness. However...
